Revitalising period properties through interior design

At Bernard Interiors, we’re privileged to work on a diverse range of projects. Our expertise lies in infusing character into newly constructed houses, and maintaining the unique charm of more historical properties.

When we take on a project, we consider every detail of the interior design and seamlessly blend the building’s heritage and the surrounding area’s history into the interiors.

Whether it involves sourcing unique vintage pieces or curating colour schemes that pay homage to a particular era, our commitment is to make sure that each interior narrates its own captivating story.
Come inside two of our listed buildings.

Park Terrace, Glasgow

Park Terrace is located in the heart of Glasgow’s Park District, and is a winner of the Society of British & International Design (SBID) Award for Best Residential Property Under £1 million.
These awards recognise design excellence across 14 categories, and there were competitors from 43 countries in our year of entry.

Standing tall amidst the vibrant city of Glasgow, this Category A-Listed, five-storey sandstone townhouse and family home is nestled in one of the area’s most desirable districts and overlooks the picturesque Kelvingrove Park.

Working closely with our client, we designed elegant and inviting interiors that would perfectly complement the beautiful building. To achieve this, we handpicked furnishings and colours to sit sympathetically alongside exquisite porcelain-white ceiling cornice, enhancing the building’s beauty and grandeur.

We also preserved the building’s antique intricate lift; a captivating centrepiece for the downstairs entrance. This not only adds a touch of nostalgia but also provides the current residents with the same level of convenience and luxury that previous generations enjoyed.

Northcote House at Sunningdale Park, Berkshire, with Audley Villages

Northcote House is a Grade II listed mansion situated on 70 acres of luscious grounds in Sunningdale Park, Ascot.

This historic estate has been transformed into a luxury Audley Group retirement village, complete with a range of amenities including a spa, pool, salon and gym. It is also a hub for the surrounding community, with the stylish onsite bar, Kemptons, open to the public to enjoy.

As a Neo-Georgian property, we knew it was essential to reflect the building’s rich heritage while ensuring it was suitable for modern and later living. As a result, the interiors were designed to enhance accessibility and durability, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all, while highlighting the historical elements of the property.

Nonetheless, our team was determined to retain the building’s distinctive identity and allow its heritage to live on. This began with in-depth research into the property and the surrounding community.

Northcote House was constructed in 1930 by Sir Hugo Cunliffe-Owen, chairman of Cunliffe Aircraft Limited. He and his wife Helen shared a deep love of horse racing and their home was used to welcome and entertain guests during Ascot house parties.

Therefore, nods to the house’s equine history are referenced throughout the interiors of this unique property. A large, horseshoe-shaped bar provides a prominent central focal point for the whole building, and is set within the double-height atrium-bistro to create maximum impact. To further enhance references to the building’s history, the restaurant features chairs upholstered in colourful striped fabrics that are reminiscent of jockey silks and bespoke velvet bar stools with appliqued horse detail.

Given the careful preservation of the original features of the building, our team took this opportunity to design in a way that gives prominence to the grand staircase and front portico, which are both remarkable and inviting sights upon entering. Our approach allowed the grandeur of these original focal points to shine through, paying homage to Northcote House while giving residents and visitors the chance to soak up remnants of its fascinating past.

We are a purpose-driven interior design studio, looking to better people’s lives through the spaces we create. Our capabilities extend to a range of different property types, but the finished projects always have specific characteristics in common; quality, luxury and timelessness.

Our style is born from our clients vision and our skills realise our clients’ business aspirations or dream lifestyle.
